Agarwood has a great history that brings about more
enchantment and mystique on this organic product. The history of Agarwood is loaded
with many medicinal and meditative uses, many of which we will bring to light
during this short article.
First off, the resulting Agarwood product comes from the
Aquilaria tree and its’ resinous heartwood. The Aquilaria trees are native to
the Aquilaria Genus, which are very large evergreens and can be easily found in
South and Southeast Asia. These majestic trees can be readily located in altitudes
from a few meters above sea level to a bit over 1,000 meters above sea level
however, the optimal level for the growth of these species fall between 425 to
575 meters above sea level. There are many species of Aquilaria trees but you
can bet that at least 10 to 15 of these species of these Aquilaria trees can
provide the needed resinous Agarwood.
This unique type of resinous wood is sought after by many as
it has no other alternative substitute to its unique natural floral scent,
causing it to be highly valued and treasured around the world. The formation of
Agarwood is really the cause and effect of a natural reaction due to a
parasite/fungus mold. This resin naturally occurs when the tree has a fungal
attack as an immune response to its attacker. As the tree continues to grow
over the years it creates a rich and dark resin throughout the infected
location which is later harvested by natural perfumers and perfume companies.
Other names that the resin is known by are Oud, Agarwood,
Aloeswood and Jinko. Many religions and cultures have made Agarwood and its
essential oils an important part of their tradition. Making it an important
part of prayer in the Middle East is one example. This unique type of wood is very expensive and
namely because of low returns from plant mater as well as a labor intensive
process of extraction.
There are 3 ways in which you can extract Agarwood, The first
method is Hydro Distillation, steam distillation and super critical CO2
extraction. In most countries you can be
sure that the development of Agarwood perfumes and scents by major fortune 500
producers are synthetic in nature as such mass production of this natural
product would be nearly impossible with its limited supply and the cost astronomical.
One company that is highly worth noting in this article is
Agarscents Bazaar, the perfumery and the perfumer out of San Diego California
who hand crafts these types of perfumes and ships them around the world daily.
Agarscents Bazaar has created remarkable perfumes of Musk, Agarwood, Oud and
many other organic and homeopathic products in such unique ways that even
individuals in Fragrantica and Parfumo have made great mentions and reviews on
this unique perfumer and the Laroche Collection.
The Laroche Collection can be found and many online shopping
platforms such www.etsy.com/AgarscentsBazaar
and www.agarscentsbazaar.com just
fill in the search bar for the name of the perfume you are searching for or its
organic components and out comes a treasure trove of eloquently placed poetic descriptions
with a matching image provided to you by the Laroche Collection team. Some of
the many you will find are Musk, Ambergris, Oud, Agarwood just to name a few.
